Check Writing History
The Check Verification NCN Verify service verifies a consumers check writing history. This service searches a large national database for any negative or positive records against the account in question.
The service queries The National Check Network database which consists of over 138 million positive account records and 22 million negative account records. The database is updated up to 300 times per day.
The NCN service supplies merchants with several definitive responses:
Code P20 - Negative Reported Item - The account has previous bad transactions or checks not reimbursed or made good.
Code P21 - No Negative Report - There were no reports of previous bad transactions or checks in the database.
Code P22 - No Account History - This is an account with little or no previous check writing history.
